We started Substrate because we lived the pain ourselves. As infrastructure engineers, we spent more time wrangling dashboards, deciphering billing reports, and writing glue code between cloud providers than we did building the products our companies actually cared about. Multi-cloud wasn't a strategy -- it was a tax on engineering velocity.
